We've been phasing out of using RANCID as our network configuration backup management tool, and have implemented Solar Winds Network Configuration Manager. However, I was wondering if there's a way to have NCM download additional information beyond the running config. For example, RANCID includes a copy of the sh ver, vlan.dat, etc. when it backs up its configurations. I'm trying to find out these things:
1. Does NCM have any additional settings to download additional info in the backup config file? I've been poking around and haven't found anything yet.
2. Does a separate scheduled job need to be run in order to accomplish this?
This has come up because we had a network device fail due to a hardware failure and the customer wanted the serial number. Had we not had the device on site, we would have been relying on NCM. I know NCM can attempt to pull serials off of network devices, but I've noticed only about half the devices in the inventory are reporting their serials, and from what I read in the NCM manual, this is a best effort feature.
